Gospel Defense

"...I am set for the defense of the gospel." Philippians 1:17

    Why are we to defend the gospel? The reasons are many but let us look at just one for now. We are to defend the gospel because there are many false gospels in the world being promoted by false prophets.

    Some familiar texts that mention this are:

"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye received another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted..." II Corinthians 11:4

"I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you and pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that what we preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before so say I again unto you, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed (damned)." Galatians 1:6-9

    There are many verses in the Bible that warn us of false prophets also. We are to beware of them, judge them by their false gospel (their doctrine), and warn others of their damnable heresy. Damnable heresy? Yes! Any "gospel" that is not the only true gospel of grace, is a lie from Satan and is damning to the soul.

    A false gospel or another gospel is NOT "the power of God unto salvation". A false gospel or another gospel is NOT good news or glad tidings. A false gospel or another gospel is NOT the "truth that sets you free". Next time you say a certain gospel is a false gospel, be prepared to say that God does not use it as a means to convert the soul, but rather it is damning heresy.

    One very good example of this is concerning the message of ARMINIANISM (This teaching is summed up in saying salvation is conditioned on the sinner, which is really salvation by works). People who reject Arminianism and claim to believe the truth of grace will usually say that Arminianism is a false gospel BUT the vast majority of these who claim to believe in the truth of grace say Arminians are saved. This makes no sense at all! Aren't they really saying you do not have to believe the true gospel of grace because there is another option to believe another gospel, or false gospel?

        False gospels dominate today's religion. Identify and expose every false way and the false prophets that promote these false gospels. Beware yourself and warn others. Defend and confirm the true gospel at the same time. God honors His gospel and hates all other gospels.
